For Broken Women In A Broken World
I remember many times thinking, Lord, it is so unfair if you return when I am having a bad day, or I’m not being as good as I should be, or if I didn’t score enough points that day, to get into heaven. Like so many, I lived in subtle fear that my life was judged on an invisible scale, with each deed being measured against perfection.
Once I understood, when I accepted Christ, God’s son, into my heart, I was saved; I was going to heaven! I could never be good enough – on my bad days or my good days – to get into heaven, but Christ inside of me could. That’s when I stopped focusing on myself, my performance and started understanding who God was.
And I now get to lean on, depend on, talk to, and cry with my King, every day, on my special journey of life. He knows my every thought, my every motivation, my every deed; he knows my ugly and he still LOVES me. Not like the love from childhood where I had to be perfect to be accepted, but an unconditional, never-ending love. He walks hand in hand with me through every season. No scales, just a hand holding mine.

One Heart for Women and Children is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization located in Orlando, Florida, helping individuals who are homeless or in times of transition by helping them meet their most essential needs. We help provide access to food, clothing, school supplies, personal hygiene items, household items, and more. One Heart offers a full spectrum of educational and preventative services, focusing on topics like: life skills, parenting, drug and alcohol abuse prevention.
Stephanie Bowman, founder was a young mother of two when she narrowly escaped domestic violence. She battled addiction and was homeless for several weeks. After a life-changing act of kindness, Stephanie decided she wanted more for her family. Her daughters went into foster care for a short time so she could begin treatment in 1999. She has been clean and sober since then.People Magazine Senior Editor Michelle Tauber says: “Stephanie’s raw candor about her own battle with addiction has resonated with millions of People magazine readers across America. Her sobriety journey has inspired many of them to start their own journeys — and inspired countless others to give back.”
Orlando Sentinel Columnist Scott Maxwell named Stephanie one of the “10 People Who Make Orlando a Better Place to Live,” telling readers: “Bowman is a one-woman tour de force — whose own life was once in shambles — who now works nonstop to help others.”
